here we go again.

Text2Image is one of those "data art" works that balances on the line of total uselessness and visual fascination. While there is no immediate purpose, one still spends minutes playing around with it.

It is an online tool which allows the user to transform text of any sort into a "visualization" of that very content. The results are deterministic, in that they are consistent to the given input, but extremely dynamic through its variance. Notably, "the application of these images is a complete unknown."

Well, I know a use: as a game to try to figure out how what the heck is the algorithm that turns the characters into a visual representation. As long as the word "infosthetics" comes out quite beautifully, I am satisfied.

Das ist wunderbar. Anstatt mit Actions, Boobs und Emotions zu werben - nüchterne Statistik. UNd trotzdem funktionierts.

Bevor ich scheitere, den eigentlichen zwecvk meinerseits zu kläglich zu beschreiben, hier exzerptiere ich dann lieber:

TODAY is a piece of generative design for mobile phones.

It’s an application that visualizes personal mobile communication. It sits on the periphery of the machine, monitoring our connectivity through the number and type of calls we receive, subtly displaying them back to us, in the form of a generative graphic. Here, the visual result is a figurative and seemingly abstract picture – the story of your day. Some days will be really colourful and wired, others quieter and more reflective, either way the resulting visuals will always be personal, unrepeatable and unique.

What lies at TODAY’s core was the idea of using personal data as the basis for an aesthetic system, while providing individuals with a visual diary of their communication patterns.

It’s an intimate piece that ‘lives’ in your pocket.

Artist Statement

This series is about the topography of money in human consciousness, the constant parade of numbers in everyday life. The figures are at once imaginary and very real. I’m interested in the power numbers have in our lives, and how much they dictate, both psychologically and actually.

These pieces were made with pigment, vintage paper and cotton thread on rice paper. The color palette is intentionally restricted to red and black: the colors of accounting. The work details the extent to which I think about finances, and uses the historically feminine crafts of sewing, collage and rubber stamping to penetrate and explore the traditionally masculine realm of business in our lives.

Richtig lecker und auf keinen Fall trocken kann Kunst heutzutage sein. Das ist auf jeden Fall diese Installation des Künstlers Hannes Broecker der an der HfbK Dresden Freie Kunst studiert. Kunst und Alkohol war schon immer eine gute Mischung und das war umso mehr bei dieser Ausstellung der Fall.

Susan Stockwell’s work takes the form of drawings, collage, sculpture and installation. It is primarily concerned with transformation. The materials used are the everyday, domestic and industrial disposable products that pervade our everyday lives. These materials are manipulated and transformed into art objects.

Soviel zum Thema Ironie:

Im Massachusetts Institute of Technology wird zur Zeit fleissig geköchelt. Das Institut ist mit der Entwicklung einer ultimativen Hightech-Küche beschäftigt, in der praktisch jeder Arbeitsschritt überwacht wird. Eine der frisch erfundenen Gerätschaften ist ein Hightech-Kochlöffel, der Informationen über den Zustand der zu kochenden Speisen gibt.

Der Löffel ist mit Sensoren ausgestattet, die den Salzgehalt, die Temperatur, den Säuregehalt und die Viskosität der Speise überwachen. Diese Infos werden an den Rechner gemeldet, der widerum dem Koch die erforderlichen Meldungen gibt, um die Mahlzeit zu optimieren.

Und ich wollte dir gerade meine Argumentation schicken, warum wir mittels analoger Technik unsere Daten auswerten. Von wegen Tradition in der Küche setzt sich gegenüber Hightech durch (siehe Beispiel: Intelligenter Kühlschrank.....falls du dich erinnern kannst bzw. davon gehört hast).
Es geht um Haptik und sinnliches Erleben, eben wie beim Kochen auch.

Wenn wir so kleine Objekte basteln wollen, um unsere Aussage über das
Kochen zu unterstützen, dann ist das echt ideal!
Ich würde es ja gut finden, wenn wir mit Kücheninventar oder Essen
diese Objekte basteln z.b. mit Spaghettis oder chin. Essstäbchen,
Alufolie Verpackungen etc.
Und schöne klare Formen. Vielleicht auch nicht auf den ersten Blick
erkennbar als Statistik.
